Tell me something.

Someone I don’t recognize favorites one of my shots, I’ll go look at their site.  I get a new follower, I’ll go see what they’re all about.

And what I see, what I have been seeing for quite awhile, is folks who don’t actually Say anything.

They post pictures with no commentary.  They post animated gifs, they reblog like crazy.

But they don’t Say anything.  They don’t contribute anything to the post they’ve reblogged, they remain silent.

It can be said that you can let the work speak for you, that by blogging it, reblogging it, you’re Saying something.

I call bullshit on that.

We’ve got this great thing going here, we can talk to folks all over the world, we can reach out, we can SCREAM by telling people about ourselves with words and pictures and videos and music.

But it sure looks to me like reblogging has replaced communicating with those who look at you.  That you attract attention, hold attention, merely by showing things, but not showing yourself.

This is your log.  This is how you represent yourself.  Nothing says you Have to talk, but why wouldn’t you?

You’re not good at writing.  So? I can get photos/music/video from anywhere, tell me what it means to you. I’m not concerned with your skill as a writer, I’m concerned with hearing what you have to tell me.  I’m more concerned with why you like the song than the song itself.

Speak up.  Talk to me.  We’re getting to the point where each of our media-related posts are disposable, five minutes later there’s gonna be a bunch of new stuff in the stream to look at.

But when you talk to me, when you tell me about what you’re doing/posting, that is vital.  That is key.

That…that’s my problem with Twitter & Facebook (facebook especially).  It’s just dross, just Content.  ”I like this!” “I did this!” “I’m here!” Pages and pages of people talking and saying nothing.

So tell me something.
