Watched the entire first season this week, on a few friends’ recommendation.
And it ain’t bad.
Sure, there’s some standard beats, lots really. It’s got the “weird science thingy” every week, and the team’s gotta solve it, that’s the standard part, and it’s aiight. It’s decent, they don’t phone it in.
But the fresh part, besides the fact they’ve got the boss from The Wire (and even though he’s black, they never kill him!!!), oh, and also besides the other fact that they’ve got Blair Brown (who I used to have a crush on, even though I never watched her show, but I’d see her show as I was changing channels, and I always liked the way she carried herself), and it’s also got Pacey from Dawnson’s Creek (which is actually horrible, but I’ll give him a pass, he was the only decent actor on that show, I totally bought that him as a teenager could seduce his teacher), ooh ooh and LEONARD NIMOY guest stars, that’s great too!
But the best part? They go crazy sci-fi very quickly. By the second episode they have belly-flopped right into crazy sci-fi stuff. Reading minds, vampires, alternate dimensions, teleportations, there’s no “maybe it’s real, maybe it isn’t”, it’s straight up This Is Science Fiction and You’re Gonna Like it.
