AN OPEN LETTER OF ANNOYANCE.
the above image was shot by a photog by the name of nicole hill gerulat. i only first heard of ms. gerult on friday, via brandon, as he had seen her photo in the latest issue of pdn’s 2009 photo annual. now, interested to see something that i was told “similar” to my Dumped! series, i just remembered this evening to check it out for myself…
i think similar is an understatement.
a gross understatement, infact. the above image alone isn’t that encrouchent but i did a little detective work and came up with the following from her “Dropped” series:
“Dropped” by Nicole Hill Gerult. 10.03.08
she calls her series “Dropped.”
seriously? (more here)
here are some from my series, from six months prior:
“Dumped!” by Meg Wachter 04.14.08
i find it hard to believe that 6 months after Dumped! received a buttload of media coverage, that she can pass this idea off as completely original and worthy of winning an award (of which i entered the very same contest!).
there’s inspiration, there’s imitation, and then there’s just plain shameless rip-off.

What’s one to do about something like this?  Do you email PDN? Do you swallow it, even though you’ve been outright robbed? Where do you go, what do you do, when your work’s been stolen in this way?
