Sometimes I wake up at the crack of dawn ready for anything, jumping out of bed, plowing through the morning routine, mind ablaze, a laser that will cut through steel.

Sometimes I wake up and it’s akin to climbing out of one’s own grave.  Exhausted by the very act of opening my eyes.

Sometimes I’m exhausted but I’ve made plans to shoot at sunrise, across town, in less than warm weather.  And I’ll go, sluggish, drive on Night of the Comet freeways, too early to drop in on any of the snack places I love.  And I’ll shoot, and mumble, and direct, and grin not nearly enough.

Several hours later, well after the shoot’s all done and Katy’s back in her warm apartment, I reflect on the crisp air, the perfection of the sunrise, the glorious light I got to play around in.  Several hours later, and just a bit too late.
