My interaction with Molly is perhaps indicative of my entire Tumblr Film Fest experience last night.
I assumed she’d be more…well shit, in trying to write this (and I’ve been trying now for 15 minutes), it seems my brain won’t allow for anything more than the straight story. Went to sleep late, woke up early, it’s all mothballs and cobwebs in this here skull.
I thought Molly would be all hoity-toity and arrogant, as she’s got herself a nice little feifdom on Tumblr. She showed up with a bit of a crew, moved effortlessly through the crowd with lots of people wanting to take their picture with her.
Which all fit with the idea of her I had in my head.
Then there were movies. She was in one, it was quite meta, waxing on her popularity and the idea of blogs as book deal proposals.
Then there was mingling. More drinks (the drinks last night were free. ALL NIGHT. Yet no fights or huge kerfluffles. Science bless internet folk). Eventually I found myself next to Molly, half-way determined not to say anything, not to give in to the strange curiosity of “hey, she’s on the internet, I’ve seen her face and her, well, sometimes strange videos and lots of people like her so you know what I’m gonna not like her”.
Then she called my name.
Now, she had had some drinks. And yet, she was quite sweet in her drunkenness. Complimented my work, even (hey, she knows my work!). I took her picture several times, after that, two different situations, and at one point, while asking me questions I couldn’t really help her with, she actually walked around me in a circle, twice. Which I found endearing, as if she were my personal drunk Moon.
To sum up, I’m a sucker for a tipsy dame who likes my photos.
Oh yeah, and the kicker: when I got home, I saw on my dashboard that she had started following me.
So, I’m a sucker for a tipsy dame who likes my photos, comes home after a Tumblr party and starts following me on Tumblr.
So yeah, that was the Tumblr Film Fest. Lots of folks you have a vague familiarity of, lots of booze, everything/everyone was more human (read: nice) than I’d expected.
