Terminator: Salvation (2009)
Hrm.  This movie…it’s not very good.  Let’s start there, yeah? The acting is decent, the special effects are very special effect-y, but, and maybe this is because I’m a nerd, the plot is a shambles.
People make life or death decisions fairly randomly, Christain Bale’s John Connor seems surprised by the revelation that the other lead is actually a terminator, people survive ridiculous violence that would crush real folk…aw man, I should’ve taken notes on this one.
It just continually hits you during the film “hey, this doesn’t quite make sense.” Logic gaps, loads of ‘em.
OH! And then you remember that Bale had his meltdown on this movie.  A Terminator movie.  Straight up lost his shit over his role in a movie about killer robots.
It also occurred to me that this movie isn’t really…let’s see if I can explain this to those of you who don’t read comic books.  This movie is like some kind of anthology piece, it’s really about this cyborg dude, and only has John Connor in maybe 30% of the film.  It’s more like a Terminator Tales: One Cyborg’s Story.  it’s like the stories they put out about that guy sitting next to Lando Calrissian in Jedi, “hey, what was that guy’s story? Let’s tell it!” And you maybe get a few scenes where he bumps into Luke or some such. Really, this movie’s all about how 1) when John Connor tells you something, no matter how ridiculous, you believe him. Because folks from the future done told him everythang. and 2) no matter how well you make a cyborg, they’ll always turn on you. Human heart, dudes.
But. It isn’t worthless. Having seen Transformers 2, my barometer has a whole new bottom, so this movie gets off light.
