Steven Soderbergh:  ”We are always at the beginning of infinity.”  From Keanu Reeves’s Side-by-Side documentary (trailer).

"Stasis is an unnatural form of being."

Makes a lot of sense, coming from Soderbergh, someone who’s gone on record saying he’s retiring because he’s got nothing new to say or try out.

I haven’t liked his last few films, but I have noticed that he’s still trying new things, to the point where the experimentation has gotten in the way of actual storytelling.  But I have to respect that, have to respect that he hasn’t rested on his laurels, hasn’t just hung back and coasted on his success.  If anything, he’s used his success to go in as many different directions as appeal to him.

Don’t believe me? This is the man who made Magic Mike, The Limey AND Sex, Lies & Videotape.

Not to mention Bubble, The Girlfriend Experience, Oceans 11, Traffic, Erin Brockavich, Hwaywire, Kafka, SCHIZOPOLIS.

I may not like his more recent work, but I have to respect the intent behind it.
