loftytales asked: Do you believe that a person can call themselves an artist? How do you know when you become one? How do you even define artist?

I totally believe a person can call themselves an artist.  I think it’s a lot like what I said about being a photographer, the other day.  Anyone can call themselves an artist, it’s what makes art kind of awesome.  There’s really only one way to become a doctor, or a lawyer, or a journalist.  But there are dozens of entry points into Art, all kinds of ways people can create.  That’s what it takes.  You have to create something, a photograph, a painting, music, papier-mâché, a film, etc.

I think if you’re creating something, you’re an artist.  That’s how you know.

Now, how do you define a GOOD artist….oof, that’s a whole other ball of wax…
