Good Vibrations - The Beach Boys
I’ve recently begun to appreciate the Beach Boys. When I was a kid, and up until a few years ago, I really disliked them, thought them simplistic and juvenile. Raised on The Beatles, I found The Beach Boys paled in every comparison.
But I’ve since come to realize that, while definitely a product of their times, Brian Wilson is nothing short of a musical genius. Especially given that there was no template for the kind of work he produced during his peak. Sure, the “themes” are a a bit hokey, but the SOUND, man. The layers, the composition, all of it, Epic Win.
So, I stand corrected. Should I ever complete my time machine, I will drop some musical knowledge on my younger self, that I might enjoy the Beach Boys much earlier. Maybe younger me would even buy one of their albums, because when I was young I used to do that.
