charlesedouard asked: I've been trying to put this into better words for a long time but I can't seem to find something better than : "How do you manage nudity" ? I'm asking because I find I would be completely lost in front of any nude woman other than my girlfriend.
My entry into nudity was made incredibly easy by having great models. The idea was initially a bit disconcerting, I was, like you, only used to seeing women naked I was planning on having happy happy fun sex time with.
But two of my models in particular, Kara and Amanda, were 100% comfortable with being naked, and that comfort made the experience far easier. Their feeling that it’s normal to pose naked, that the human body DESERVES to be photographed naked made me feel very much the same way.
After working with them, I carried that idea into subsequent nude shoots, and now it’s not that difficult, at all.
That said, my ideas on doing nude shoots are still in flux, I continuously debate whether I’ve got anything to bring to the genre, whether it’s really necessary for me to take nudes, whether it’s worth the baggage that comes with posting a nude photo online. I go back and forth, and frankly, I just don’t feel that much of an urge to do more, to go out and seek models to shoot nude.
What I’m after in my work, a degree of truth, of honesty from my subject, I don’t find that’s necessarily assisted by having the subject nude. I don’t think nudity is any more a true depiction of a subject than having them wear clothes. If anything, I think having my subject nude can get in the way of the viewer seeing what I want them to see.
