Hold On Dear Brother - The Beach Boys
Soulful. That’s what this track is all about for me. I’ve made my way through the majority of the Beach Boys 70s output, and this track has hooked me. I like to think of it as music from the more somber side of surfing. That maybe their entire catalogue is about surfing, but that surfing is a more emotionally complex endeavor than we’d initially think. Carl Wilson’s songs bring out the soul in surfing, Brian brings out the kaleidoscopicthrill, Dennis’ the somber calm.
Yeah, man, I got these guys all figured out. Now I’m gonna go light some incense and do my tai chi.
