Credit
A fellow Flickr user posted my photo today, with a border around it, and my name at the top. The post was titled “inspiration.” Linked to me, too.
Which is awesome.
But she said she’d seen the photo on another blog, and that blog did not in any way give me credit.
Which is not awesome. Not only is it Not awesome, it’s more than a little worrying.
Because the internet is vast, and there’s no way I can adequately shepherd all my photos, no way I can 100% each and every one of them from being used without my permission, or without at the very least getting credit for them.
I know of a few blogs, and a few tumblr sites that post photos all the time. Which is awesome. But they neglect to credit the photographer, and that just seems unfair. It’s not that much effort, and the reward, the respect that implies, is significant.
So it’s incumbent on all of us out here on the internet to voluntarily respect each other’s work.
If you’re gonna post someone else’s photo, give ‘em credit. A link, or a name, at the very least. They went through all the trouble of taking the picture, least we can do is acknowledge them.
Thanks.
