Abby, as she considers rolling down the hills and crashing some old geezer’s golf game.

Today’s models.

Increasingly, photographs are the artifact of the experience, for me.  They facilitate the experience, they record the experience, but the experience is more than just the taking of photographs, the aim is more than the taking of photographs.

Had I turned out a series of boring shots of Abby yesterday, I would’ve been as satisfied.

Had my cameras all malfunctioned and I’d ended up with no pictures at all, I’d have walked away still having had an excellent time.

It’s my way of engaging…it’s my favorite way of engaging with people.  It gives us pretense (photo shoot), while allowing us the opportunity to move right past the banal small talk I despise.

It’s the catalyst for some good conversation.

I’ve spent the past few weeks wondering what to shoot.

Folks (like Abby) who give good conversation.  That’s what I’m after.

My preparations for this afternoon’s shoot with Abby:

  • eat pumpkin ice cream
  • watch the Dr. Who Christmas Special
  • listen to the Black Crowes
  • become slightly nauseous from eating pumpkin ice cream
  • look at the shots of Abby I took last time (remember not to take those shots because, shit, I’VE ALREADY TAKEN THEM)
  • nap
  • write about my preparations (META)
  • wiggle my fingers like Mr. Burns (plotting planning is fun!)
